From a Mother

A world for you and me,
I wish had been war free.
Where taking swords was a choice,
Not a decision we are left with.
I had to go through it,
But you, my dear, won’t face it.
And I, till my last breadth,
Will ensure that.
For every scar I carry today,
Will become your shield tomorrow.
Let my battles end with me,
So your days may begin with peace.
Walk freely where I once feared to stand,
Build where ruins used to be.
If the world learns anything from us,
Let it be the courage to choose peace.
