Why does fear of failure paralyze people? I often ponder this question. Fear does not paralyze us because failure makes our efforts redundant; it paralyzes us because it questions our identity. It makes us doubt our worth and relevance. This fear is deeply rooted in psychology. I believe failure teaches the true meaning of success. It helps us identify the root problems in difficult situations and shows us how to maneuver through them. Without failure, success would feel empty and unearned. However, we should not question our capability after a few setbacks. We often compare our failures to others’ successes, and that is where we go wrong.
I remember taking an exam three times and failing each attempt. I was disappointed not only because I could not crack it, but because I feared being judged by others. That fear weighed heavier than the failure itself. Although I never cleared that exam, the preparation taught me resilience. Eventually, those lessons helped me succeed in a bigger challenge. Failure questioned my worth, but it also strengthened my character.
