Great things take time, but our tireless efforts and unwavering spirits will one day help it reach the skies.
As a student who is fond of historical changes, I believe shared global consciousness can transcend borders. At one point of time, we all have come across notable changes like gender equality, protection and conservation of wildlife, introduction of penicillin, gravity, trade and commerce, spread of faith and religion, languages, the need for education, yoga and Ayurveda and what not!
The uniform alignment of our thoughts, irrespective of our nationality and cultural identity, is solely due to shared consciousness. This is because we understood its value and hence, were able to create history. Global consciousness is required not only to introduce something new, but also to prevent further damage. For instance, a twenty three minute standing ovation at the Venice and Cannes Film Festival was observed with respect to the sufferings of innocent civilians who were stuck in the Israel - Gaza bombings. A universal support and approach even led to the ongoing war to come to a halt. How strong unity and a shared global consciousness really is, we get to know through these exemplary events!

Feminism found its way through global consciousness as well. There was a time when women were treated as passive citizens. They would be refrained from voting, ruling, education and subjugated to household chores and violence. There was a time when women of the losing empire would be taken away and treated as concubines. There was a time when women were considered weak and illogical. But, times have changed. In the present day, women not only vote and gain education, but also profess in fields which they were 'incapable' of.
Pandita Ramabai, Ahilya Bai Holkar, Dr. Anandi Bai, Razia Sultan, Rani Lakhsmi Bai, Marie Curie, Helen Keller are just a few to name. Because of global consciousness and the spread of feminism, I'm able to write and curate this feature and pour my perspective upon it.
Today, global consciousness also reveals political conspiracy. Several massive Gen - Z protests have stood against corruption in countries like Nepal, Philippines, Indonesia and Venezuala. These protests have exposed dark secrets which many parts of the world weren't aware of. The introduction of global consciousness is not something new. We have always carried it with us at some point in our lives. Even the introduction of democracy, social and political rights is due to this.
Words by the three greats - John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau and Montesquien spread across French mouths and reached the far land of India. Anti - colonial motives like the 'Swadeshi Movement' and the need to promote localised products like Khadi were a result of this consciousness. The introduction of 'Zero' by Aryabhatta, medicines, vaccines, evolution of clothing and fashion, rejuvenation of spiritualism, veganism, technological advancements - all of these took place because we shared our thoughts and reached a global conclusion.
Global warming and rapid climatic change is one of the many current issues faced by the world today. Others include human and organ trafficking, side effects of doomscrolling an d consequences of fast foods. Battling these grave events is not easy. Even the sphere of art, dance, music and literature moulded into something unique. With the introduction of the printing press by Johann Gutenberg in 1448, the Bible could reach not only to the Clergies but also to the hands of normal people. Introduction of books in China was extremely helpful. As civil services began in China in the 16th century, candidates referred to printed books with important matter over manuscripts.

The famous words of William Shakespeare - "To Be or Not To Be, that is the question" - reached the wider audience. It helped the society to rebuild themselves and then thoughts in a unique manner. The famous 'The Starry Night' by Vincent van Gogh rejuvenated fine arts and the way an artist should observe daily life. Notable artistes like Pt. Birju Maharaj, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pt. Ravi Shankar, M.S. Subhalakhsmi redefined the fields of Kathak, Shehnai, Sitar and Carnatic Vocal respectively.
Even the ships that sailed in the earlier times have a role to play too. Arab merchants in the 7th century would reach the coasts of Kochi and Kozhikode not only to trade, but to also influence religion and tradition. The discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus is also one of the many great examples. The present day issues revolve around global warming and rapid climatic change, human and organ trafficking, safety concerns and more. These are not just mere events; they are a threat to our societal well - being.
Global consciousness has always been the need of the hour. A girl living under the Taliban rule wishes for the same rights as for a girl in America or India. A girl who has been through Female Genital Mutilation in Sub - Saharn Africa, wishes to be free from all social stigmas. Consciousness is beyond borders. Once Swami Vivekananda quoted,
The most powerful part of a human being is this mind.
Continuation of shared global consciousness has and always will make us reach skies and places we have never dreamt of.
