The Eshani Kathak Academy, a brainchild of Kathak danseuse Smt. Eshani Agarwal celebrated its annual showcase of its students on December 20, 2024, in collaboration with the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. The event was held at Swami Vivekanand Auditorium, in Kathak Kendra, New Delhi with the gracious presence of Smt. Pranaame Bhagawati, Director, Kathak Kendra. The evening also welcomed the benign presence of Shri Raju Das, Secretary, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi along with his wife Smt. Roopa Rani Das Borah.
The evening included different Kathak choreographies by the students of renowned and accomplished Kathak Artiste Mrs. Eshani Agarwal (Disciple of Late Guru Shri Surendra Saikia), followed by a duet performance of Guest Artistes Gaurav Shridhar and Anshika Pandey.
The evening showcased some very mesmerising choreographies by Smt. Eshani Agarwal. The inaugural presentation was with a 'Shiv Vandana' performed by the youngest students, set in Taal Teental. The next presentation was 'Shuddh Paramparik Nritya' (pure dance) in Teental, choreographed upon a musical piece composed by Kathak legend Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj. This was further followed by a beautiful 'Darbari Tarana' presentation. The evening also showcased a duet on an old popular Thumri written by Pt. Bindadin Maharaj, performed by Pragati Joshi and Meenal Chatterjee. Next was a beautiful Bandish on 'Megh Malhar', originally sung by Ujwal Nagar and music given by Leslie Lewis and performed by Anika Thakur, Kavya Bisht, Yashika Sankhla and Adah Kumar. The Eshani Kathak Akademi presented its final performance with a 'Tarana' in Raag Bahaar, Taal Teental, which was performed by Pragati Joshi and Meenal Chatterjee.
The evening also had a guest performance by Gaurav Shridhar and Anshika Pandey whose performance included 'Rudrashtakam' and Teental pure dance repertoire.
