Art being volatile, has the utmost ability to rapidly become fragile as well as become an element to solidify a concept or a vision. It is its brilliance to decode an abstract in its simplest way. Its transition happens to be prone to the changes which occurs with its socio-cultural history, relating to intrusion of another culture and ethic, intruders from a different continent or country who brought with them their treasure trove of arts and artistic notions. As art and culture stick skin to skin with a community or a society at large, every individuals' representation is its arts and culture which is visually portrayed through its gesture, behaviour and aesthetics. And as a being or a community intends to exercise the proliferation of the self, it tries to impose its culture within its residency.
My first encounter of blending my Kathak dance art with a foreign performing art (Ballet) happened at the age of twenty. I was young and too adament to stay within the boundary of my execution. In all such experiments and processes my husband Rudra Jayanta Bhagawati's visionary outlook helped me to outgrow my constraints.
From thereon, under my husband's guidance, I learnt to accept variation in modalities, concepts and intentions. But, at the end I understood that, every dance art form's sole engrossment almost revolves around the technicalities in relation to body movements and expressions mentioned in the Natya Sashtra and Abhinaya Darpan. Stirring the various colours of different dance art forms and choreographing it to bring it to a vidual appeal became a regular interest for me. I created my own space and reason for it or try to connect dots which resonates the same feel.
In the tumultuous world of artistry, emancipating creative excellence with solidarity results in a journey marked by boundless passion, relentless pursuit of expression, and unwavering commitment to creativity. This not only elevates individual brilliance but unites different artistes from various cultural delicacies under a shared vision - Solidarity. This essence of unity serves as the cornerstone in emancipating creative excellence, a force that propels the artistic community towards greatness.
At the heart of every masterpiece, every stroke of genius, and every composition that touches souls, lies the pursuit of creative excellence. Yet, the path to creative excellence is not solitary. It thrives in the fertile ground of solidarity, where artistes come together, share experiences, and uplift each other. Solidarity among artistes has the transformative power to inspire, support, and nurture creativity. It is a bond that transcends individual aspirations and celebrates collective growth, where each success is a victory for the community.
In one of my recent invites to a contemporary themed dance presentation 'And She Spoke', conceptualised by Bharatnatyam dancer and choreographer Vaibhav Arekar was a feast not only to the eyes, but to the soul. It left with an unwavering conquest for the womanhood.
Embracing solidarity among artistes is a catalyst for innovation and progress. Through creatively dynamic collaborations, artistes not only amplify their creative potential but also enrich the artistic landscape with diverse perspectives. In a world where individualism often reigns, solidarity offers a refreshing approach that values cooperation over competition and community over isolation.
As we celebrate our 10 years of service to arts and culture, we are elaborately focusing on our Cover Stories and this month I am elated to welcome thoughts upon the Cover Story - Solidarity in Creative Approaches by Ravindra Nath Srivastava who is famously known with his pen name Parichay Das, Vandana Srivastava and Rajni Rao. I thank them all for forwarding their writes.
As we navigate the ever-evolving tapestry of artistry, it is essential to cultivate a culture of solidarity that empowers emerging talents, nurtures seasoned visionaries, and builds bridges across generations. By embracing solidarity, we pave the way for a future where creative excellence is not just a goal but a shared legacy, passed down from one artist to another in a spirit of kinship and collaboration.
