LET'S LEARN ABOUT PET THERAPY

We all love pets in our surroundings. They make us happy with their appearance and the unconditional love they have for us. Let's learn about pet therapy and its importance in our life. Pet therapy is a term that includes animal-assisted therapy and other animal-assisted activities. Pet therapy is primarily is a human-animal bonding that deals to cure many physical and mental issues.

Animal-Assisted Therapy is a growing field that uses dogs, cats, horses, birds or other animals to help people recover from or better cope with health problems, such as heart disease, cancer and mental health disorders. The biggest concern particularly in hospitals is safety and sanitation. Most hospitals and other facilities that use pet therapy have stringent rules to ensure that the animals are clean, vaccinated, well-trained and screened for appropriate behaviour.

Fishes that are kept in the aquarium also bring in relaxation. The beauty in their movements and colours plays a vital role in eliminating stress. Dogs are so playful, happy and loyal companion. They are known as 'human's best friend'. 90% of the population have a dog as their pet. They engage themselves with a lot of activities.

Birds are also known for their quick movements and beautiful visual display. There are other pet animals like guinea pigs, llama, cats, rabbits, horses, etc.

Let's have a quick look at the effectiveness of pet therapy:

  1. Dogs are the most commonly used animal in pet therapy.

  2. Pet therapy reduces stress, anxiety, blood pressure and most importantly depression.

  3. It improves cardiovascular health whilst

  4. It releases endorphins that produce a calming effect.

I personally feel that children must interact with animals by keeping a pet. It helps them stay a lot happier and emotionally connected.
